St. Chris celebrated the years 1896-1905 at the hospital on Jan. 7. In 1896, St. Chris acquired its first ambulance -- a horse drawn carriage. NBC 10 featured the event during their a.m. news.

St. Chris Celebrates the First Horse-Drawn Ambulance

Join us on Thursday, Jan. 7 as we celebrate 1896-1905! In 1896, St. Christopher’s acquired its first ambulance – a horse-drawn carriage. Learn about the history of the ambulance & transport services at St. Christopher’s. Attendees will also enjoy a snack from the decade, learn facts from those years, and view historical photos.

St. Chris Celebrates 1886-1895

In continuation of St. Chris' 140th birthday, the hospital hosted yesterday that educated attendees about what was happening at St. Chris from 1886-1895.
In 1886, St. Christopher’s became the first hospital in the region to offer neonatal care to critically ill infants. Dr. Jan Goplerud, neonatologist at St. Christopher’s, presented on the history of neonatology at St. Christopher’s. Attendees also enjoyed a snack from the decade, learned facts from those years, and viewed historical photos.

On Friday, Dec. 4, St. Christopher's continued its celebration of its 140th anniversary. Friday's event included a look at St. Chris' first decade (1875-1885), featured a guest speaker, and included photos and historical food from the era.

St. Christopher's Celebrates 140th Birthday! A Look at 1875-1885

Join St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children as it celebrates its 140th birthday. To kick-off a 3-month long celebration of the anniversary, the hospital will host a party that will educate patients, staff and the public on 1875-1885, the humble beginning of St. Christopher’s.

The special event will feature a special speaker, Dr. Doug Thompson, who will discuss what care was like for children living in Philadelphia during that decade and the beginning of St. Christopher’s. Attendees will also enjoy a snack that originated 1878, learn facts from those years, and view photos from the decade.
